My Story:

I am beyond grateful to be an artist in this lifetime, as I've been given the opportunity to use art as a healing tool for myself, my family, and my community. As a result of this, I've created a three-part recall memory series, Home(coming), that revisits physical and metaphorical spaces through collective memories as a medium to remember the past, present, and forgotten parts of ourselves. My project Bembé: Celebrating Life and Death en la Sala is in the earliest stages of development. This artist residency at Kala Institute offers me the chance to immerse myself in the rich artistic tapestry of California, providing fresh inspiration and experiences that will elevate my work.

The Project:

"El Bembé" focuses on life and death by offering a space on how to cope with loss and learn how to celebrate one another other. With your support, I'll be able to create a series of artworks that capture the essence of these themes through video, sound, and light.

Fundraising Goal:

To make this artist residency at Kala Institute a reality, I need to raise $1,500. This will cover expenses such as residency fees, travel, art supplies, accommodations, and materials to create my artwork.
